What Checkout Upsell Does

Checkout Upsell shows shoppers a popup of recommended products when they arrive at your BigCommerce checkout. Products are chosen automatically from what’s in each shopper’s cart, so there are no rules to set up.
  • Automatic recommendations based on the products in the cart, with your best sellers filling any gaps.
  • Pinned products (optional) are shown first, as long as they’re not already in the cart.
  • Add to cart from the popup for products without options, with a quantity selector. Products with options link to their product page so shoppers can choose them.
  • Shown once per visit, and never for products already in the cart or out of stock.

Before You Start

Checkout Upsell needs permission to add content to your checkout page and to show your storefront prices (including tax and customer group pricing) in the popup. If you installed PureClarity before Checkout Upsell was available, you’ll need to approve this:
  1. Open the PureClarity app from your BigCommerce control panel.
  2. Approve the updated permissions when prompted.
Until you approve the permissions, the Checkout Upsell page in PureClarity shows a message and the feature can’t be turned on.

Setting Up Checkout Upsell

  1. In PureClarity, go to Checkout Upsell.
  2. Set the Headline and, optionally, a Description.
  3. Choose the Text colour, Button colour and the Number of products to show (1 to 3). The text colour must be dark enough to read on the popup’s white background. Button text switches between black and white automatically to stay readable.
  4. Optionally, add Pinned products.
  5. Turn on Show the Checkout Upsell popup and click Save.
PureClarity adds a script to your checkout page when Checkout Upsell is turned on, and removes it when it’s turned off.

Reporting

The Checkout Upsell page shows the last 28 days of:
  • Impressions - how many times the popup was shown.
  • Add to cart / option clicks - how many times shoppers added a product or clicked through to choose options.
  • Click rate - clicks as a percentage of impressions.
  • Attributed revenue - revenue from these products, using PureClarity’s standard attribution rules.

Limitations

Checkout Upsell only works with BigCommerce’s Optimized One-Page Checkout on your default storefront. Third-party and custom checkouts (for example, headless checkouts or checkout apps that replace the BigCommerce checkout) are not supported.
  • When a product is added from the popup, the checkout reloads to show the updated cart and totals.
  • Discounts on upsell products are not currently supported.
